RV Park VISON: A Quiet, Clean Place to Sleep in Your Car
Sleeping in your car in Japan sounds fun. But where can you stay the night, take a bath, and use a clean toilet without worrying?
For our family, one answer is RV Park VISON in Mie Prefecture. My family of four stayed there in summer in our minivan. Here is what we liked, what you should know, and the basic facts before you go.
First, what is an "RV Park" in Japan?
An RV Park is a paid place where you are allowed to sleep in your car or camper. You book a space, pay a fee, and use the toilets and other facilities.
This is different from a roadside station (michi-no-eki). Roadside stations are places to take a short rest on a drive, not campsites. If you want to stay the night with peace of mind, an RV Park is the easier choice.
What we loved about RV Park VISON
- Everything is clean. It's a new place, and a hotel is part of the same resort. The toilets were clean, and so was the bath house.
- The bath house has herbal baths. Honzo-yu, right next to the park, is known for baths made with medicinal herbs. It's a nice way to relax after a long drive.
- It's very quiet. The park is surrounded by mountains. At night it was so quiet that I felt really relaxed.
- It was cool in summer. We went in summer, but with the mountains all around us, it felt cool.
For a family, a clean toilet and a good bath make a big difference. We could rest well and wake up feeling good.
Things to know before you go
These are not problems, but good to know so you can plan well:
- It costs more than a roadside station. You pay for each night. The cheapest spaces have no power outlet.
- You need a car. VISON is in the countryside of Mie, so driving is the easiest way to get there.
- Trash is not free. You buy an official trash bag at the park.
- Quiet hours are taken seriously. Generators can't be used after 9 p.m., and fireworks are not allowed.
